What is Prader-Willi Syndrome?

PWS is a randomly caused genetic disorder (due, essentially, to missing genes on the 15th chromosome) that is the leading genetic cause of obesity in children, affecting 1 in every 12,000 to 15,000 live births.

PWS can result in:

  • learning disabilities

  • behavior problems

  • insatiable hunger (due to a lack of correct messages being sent to the brain)

  • very low metabolism

  • short stature

  • low muscle tone
